Our Beginning in Dalton
Myers Flooring, originally Myers Carpet Company, was started from humble beginnings: founded in 1957, in an old family smokehouse, accessible only by a dirt road in Dalton, Georgia. It was the entrepreneurial spirit of Gene Myers, who recognized a unique opportunity in the already flourishing flooring manufacturing industry in Dalton. With the support of his wife, Evelyn Myers, Gene started small, purchasing scraps and short rolls from local mills and using his considerable skills to fabricate custom rugs and stair treads out of the pieces: since the very beginning, customized rug fabrication has been our specialty. Over the years, Gene’s parents, Raymond and Lillie Mae, and his sister Sue, all contributed to the success of the business in different ways, making it a true family endeavor.
Expanding Our Craft
The Myers family’s hard work paid off, and in 1971, Gene Myers opened the very first floor covering retail store in Dalton, Georgia. Gene was able to utilize the relationships he built with the local mills over the years, and shift focus to higher quality, imported carpets, and even more customized fabrication services. As the business continued to grow, the family was able to hire and train additional skilled craftsmen to continue Gene’s unique, custom flooring work. At Myers Flooring, we have always strived to maintain a reputation, not only for offering the largest and most diverse selection of high-end carpet brands in the Southeast, but also for offering quality craftsmanship that you can’t find anywhere else.
Expanding to Atlanta
Gene and Evelyn would go on to raise a family together, and in true Myers family fashion, their two sons, Rick and Ray Myers grew up to join the family business. For many years now, Rick and Ray have been an integral part of the growth and expansion of Myers Flooring. In 1987, the Myers opened their second retail location in Atlanta, bringing their custom carpet services to the heart of the Southeast’s largest metropolis. The Myers Flooring Atlanta store would continue to grow and thrive, upgrading from a 3000 SF showroom to a 35,000 SF showroom, in 1993, and then again in 2024, to our current 80,000 SF showroom and warehouse facility, nestled firmly in the heart of Atlanta's famed West Midtown Design District.
Expanding into Tennessee
Not long after the Myers’ expansion into Atlanta, in 2001, the business expanded once more, crossing state lines this time to open our third location, in the ever-growing market of Nashville, Tennessee. Just as it did in Atlanta, Myers Flooring Nashville grew exponentially, and in 2017, the Nashville store was relocated to a 60,000 SF facility, which served as the largest Myers Flooring location for several years, until Atlanta’s recent expansion in 2024.
The Next Generation of Myers Flooring
Both Rick and Ray Myers would go on to have families of their own, ensuring that the legacy of Gene and Evelyn Myers will continue. With four boys between them, Myers Flooring has kept it in the family, with all four sons, Justman, Hunter, Sinclair and Bentley Myers participating in the family business. The eldest son, Justman Myers, is at the helm of our Myers Flooring Atlanta store, and Sinclair Myers is currently managing our Myers Flooring Dalton retail store. For nearly 68 years, through four generations and multiple expansions, Myers Flooring is one of few businesses of our size that remains family owned and operated.

One major key to the continued success of Myers Flooring is our close ties within the flooring industry as well as with local interior designers. We work closely with mill representatives and interior design tastemakers to follow the trends in flooring, not just on a local, but a national level. In consulting with our industry partners, we have learned that one of the things that truly sets us apart in today’s fast-paced flooring industry is the size of our on-site custom rug warehouses and the sheer volume of luxury goods that we stock in our stores. Our in-stock inventory represents a huge variety of designs and materials from all over the world, allowing us to offer very individualized fabrication services at a very quick turnaround, which benefits both our designers and their clients. In the words of Justman Myers: “We pride ourselves in having a truly global selection of carpet.”
